Happy Earth Month!

Island nations such as Saint Vincent and the Grenadines are particularly susceptible to the effects of climate change. We work with nature to demonstrate a better way of producing fashion. Learn about our sustainable ethos as we consider Earth Month.

Since opening our doors, we have operated with a slow fashion mindset: creating beautiful pieces to become wardrobe staples to wear and love for years to come. Back in 2020, our first collection featured styles with classic silhouettes and vibrant linens. Though timeless with the designs and fabric choices, we knew we could push the boundaries further in creating sustainable fashion. As we built our knowledge and expanded our supply chain, we evolved and have since made great accomplishments.

Our latest collection, ‘The Way Home’, features mainly organic fabrics. Our current styles, both online at www.noyobequia.com and in the Boutique, are made from organic cotton and bamboo, ecological hemp and linen. Each was chosen for its natural beauty, quality and ecological and social benefits. Our linens include deadstock which is unwanted material, often burned or discarded in landfill. We divert this waste while creating unique pieces in small quantities, in line with our slow fashion ethos.

In addition to responsibly sourcing low impact fabrics, we package each purchase completely free from plastic to allow sustainability to flow through the entirety of our brand, from manufacturing to retail. Instead, we use recycled paper-based materials or compostable bio-polymers free from toxic chemicals and fully recyclable.

Online shopping paper packaging is fully kerbside recyclable or compostable at home.

Though we have come far throughout the years, there are still greater strides to take. For the future of Bequia Threadworks, we hope to be fully solar powered – another obstacle to overcome while operating within the constraints of our little island. Continue to follow our journey as we expand on sustainable fashion.
